Have you recently discovered AI tools like ChatGPT and are eager to use them in Hong Kong? If you're facing challenges accessing them, you're not alone. It's entirely possible to access and benefit from these AI resources in Hong Kong, even with certain constraints. The key is to identify the right tool for your needs. Remember, there's a diverse range of models out there, each offering unique strengths and weaknesses.

Note: It's important to know that products and mobile apps using the GPT-4 API may not share the same token limits as the original. Take Poe, for instance, which is quite popular in Hong Kong. It dishes out fewer GPT-4 responses compared to an OpenAI ChatGPT subscription, topping off at about 1,090 responses each month. This comes from the combo of 3 daily responses plus an extra grand. In contrast, OpenAI's ChatGPT can offer roughly 2,250 responses, based on 75 daily GPT-4 responses divided into three chunks of 25 responses. By asking outside of the nine-hour window we used for this calculation, you may receive more responses. Just bear in mind that Poe needs a yearly commitment, which could end up not being fully used if GPT-4 costs dip or a better model comes onto the scene.

Which AI model is the best for personal use?

If you're seeking top-quality output, the raw GPT-4 model remains unmatched, particularly when combined with the additional web-browsing plugin currently available on ChatPlus Beta. GPT-4 shines as the superior model, and with a much larger token count, it's pretty much your best bet for almost any situation.

There exist, similar models, like Google Bard, but they have their own restrictions, particularly when it comes to dissecting or crafting large documents. This becomes even more crucial when you're dealing with other languages like Mandarin (Simplified Chinese) or Cantonese (Traditional Cantonese), which typically need more tokens for the same or fewer words. For translation tasks, GPT-4 is a no-brainer, given it's reported to perform substantially better than its predecessor, GPT3.5, other models, and even Google Translate. Do keep in mind, though, that even GPT-4 isn't flawless, and you'll need a translation pro to give your content a once-over.

Which AI Model Tops the Charts for Business Use?

If you're considering introducing AI to your business - be it to combine with your current systems or to converse directly with your clientele, and not just for your team to use - there are several key considerations:

  • Data Sovereignty: What data will be shared, and what's the management plan?
  • Language Needs: Will you be using a language other than English?
  • Token Needs: How many tokens will you be processing?
  • API Access: Is there a need to interface with your systems via an API?
  • ChatGPT or Playground?: Which will it be?

Initially, you'll need to determine which variant of GPT-4 is the optimal fit for your situation:

  • ChatGPT: Boasting a user-friendly interface, it's capped at 25 messages every three hours. Beta access users get to use the latest plugins and web browsing mode.
  • Playground Chat Beta Mode: Offers more bells and whistles, unlimited messages per hour, but you're charged per token usage. No plugins or web browsing here.

Steps to Access ChatGPT in Hong Kong

Registering a ChatGPT account in Hong Kong is relatively simple, follow these steps:

  1. Connect to a VPN (USA/UK recommended)
  2. Navigate to OpenAI's website in your browser and hit the "Register" button
  3. On the registration page, you'll need to input some basic info like your name, email address, and password
  4. Agree to OpenAI's terms and conditions and hit the "Sign Up" button
  5. Check your inbox for a confirmation email, and click the link to confirm your account
  6. Enter your credit card details or opt for other payment methods to settle the payment

Note: you will need a SIM card from a country where OpenAI is accessible. There are many digital services available for registering a SIM card online and receiving text messages if this is something you don’t already have. You cannot have more than one account attributed to a single number.

ChatGPT Plus vs Playground

Currently, there are TWO versions of GPT-4 up for grabs; ChatGPT and Playground (through the Chat Beta version). These call for different subscription types but can be accessed using the same account login.

ChatGPT Plus (GPT-4)
    • Easy-to-use chat interface
    • Nicely formatted tables and code
    • Access to plugins (with beta)
    • Access to web browsing (with beta)
  • Limited to 25 messages every 3 hours
  • Prone to outages and connectivity issues

USD 20/month

Playground Beta (GPT-4)

  • More settings
  • Better connectivity and less downtime
  • No message limit (pay by token usage instead)
  • Poorly formatted tables and code (completely fine for exporting just doesn’t look as nice)
  • Prompt: $0.03 / 1K tokens
  • Completion: $0.06 / 1K tokens

Based on the information above, the current ChatGPT Plus Beta version is the best version to be using, no matter what the circumstance.
